Westopia is a Los Angeles based publication and platform that examines the roots of Los Angeles as the Wild West. Narrated by the writings of Mike Davis “City of Quartz” where he writes about excavating the future past of Los Angeles in 1987. Los Angeles, the mother of all western cow towns, flourishing a quarter century before the halcyon days. Raucous saloons and gambling houses teeming with crowds of Indians and Californios, Mexicans and Americans. “Material Dreams” showed how L.A.’s early leaders, or “boosters”, transformed a desert into a city with little more than dreams. Westopia is a circle without fear of feelings of inferiority and superiority. When we recognize the common source of our humanity, the common origins of our dreams and longings, our hopes and fears, we are able to see that we are all joined together in the great miracle of existence. When we can combine our tremendous inner wealth to create a treasure of love and wisdom that is available to all, we are linked together in the exquisite pattern of eternal creation.
